17/09 -11: Installing Android SDK on Windows 7 64-bit
Had a brief Android SDK install problem, where the installer insisted I don't have Java Developement Kit (JDK7) present and that I'd need to install that before Android SDK installer could go forth.
Turns out the problem is with my Win7 being 64-bit and thus the JDK is 64-bit as well. Started looking into this and stumbled onto few similar problems, until I notices something peculiar in this StackOverflow item's comments.
Quote: "Believe it or not, clicking Back and Next will fix it :)"
Which it did and Android SDK installed nicely. I'm glad I caught that, before knifing around register and so forth. For some reason the Android SDK installer is looking for JDK path inside 32-bit registry keys while I have 64-bit JDK installed.
My Android SDK installer was r12, while r8 was also mentioned as being affected.

12/07 -11: Ubuntu + Chrome + Sun Java
Just making a note for myself.
To get webstuff that requires "the correct java" running, such as Sampo verkkopankki, do following:
"sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin"
Then close Chrome and fire it up again. It should pick up on the plugin.
If that's not enough, fire up Synaptic, search "sun-java" and install the JRE. Again, close and restart Chrome and it should work.

11/02 -11: No more eMusic for me, it seems
I've been an fan and a subscriber for eMusic from 2004 on, during which time I had about a year when I put my subscription on hold. I've paid 12-14 € to them every month, which initially ment 30 tracks and later 40 tracks to download each month. Late last year they moved from per track pricing to "music balance", which shows your current balance in "eMusic money", for me that is shown in euros.
I almost said basically that means, but there is nothing basic about this new system. Right now I pay them 13,99 € per month and receive 13,99 + 5,61 bonus, which sums up to € 19,60 in music balance. A basic track costs from 0.42 € to 0.49 €, sometimes they're more, sometimes they're free. Logic on the pricing, which there might be, is lost with me. Probably due to major labels asking different sums for different artists.
What this means is I should start counting what I can and can not buy at certain times, depending on what I want at that particular time and if I have stuff saved for later.
Save for later was the most useful part of the service, as you could save stuff there and leave private comments on individual albums. I used this to save music when I had time to look around, but no credits to buy them and buy them later when I had the credits but not the time to look around. Very time and cost effective.
Earlier I bought my latest montly batch of music (Lo Pan: Sasquanaut, Tame Impala: InnerSpeaker, Fistula: Goat and Fatso Jetson: Cruel & Delicious) and was left with € 2+ in my music balance, which I decided I would use to get few more tracks off the excellent The Zombies album Odessey and Oracle from 1968 (everyone knows the track Time of the Season. Right?), so that I would get all of the tracks on it bought off next month and could download it in full finally. Only since the change, the shop doesn't remember the previously bought tracks anymore, but has a "intelligent download detection", which has now decided I've already downloaded the first four tracks and should pay for them again if I want them.
Also, I was left with € 0.53 in music balance, which I can't really use like I've previously done, since "buy now & download later" is not an option anymore. To add insult to injury, since the service is "monthly subscription only", the leftover balance does not carry over to following months and is instead lost forever.
So I'm getting a degraded service, which requires me to use math to decide what I can and can not buy, which ends up costing me more money and doesn't do the things I signed up for originally. It is really sad actually, because I liked the service a lot. I've put something like a 1000 € in to the store and now they've lost me.
Once again, major labels fucked up another really good music service for me. Fuck you, fuck you very much.

10/02 -11: Comment spam is an eternal nuissance
I've had to deal with occasional blog comment spam all of my "blogging career" and it is getting really stupid. I've now had to band whole ISP's and IP ranges on the top level. And I hate doing it, not just because it takes my time, but because I really would like to let people comment and share information if they so choose.
So far here are the biggest offenders:
112.* and 58.22.* (China / CNCGroup.cn)
122.160.*-122.177.* and 182.* (India / AirtelBroadband.in)
178.168.* and 87.248.* (Moldova / starnet.md)
202.164.47.* (India / ECL TeleCommunication Ltd)
59.56.* - 59.61.* (China / ChinaNet/China Telecom)
91.201.64.* - 91.201.67.* (Russia / DonEkoService Ltd)
Few of them I've contacted over the years and never received any response from. Nowdays, I just don't care and will ban a whole country if I see fit.
Now, would someone know of a good list of known problematic domains, which I could start using for filtering and where I could submit my offenders?
EDIT: I've just found a plugin, which makes use of Project Honey Pot, called Bad Behavior. Nucleus has a plugin for it and so does a lot of other blogging platforms (like MediaWiki, Drupal, ExpressionEngine, Joomla!, phpBB, WordPress, and others). Support Honey Pot as well, I've had several sites up for years.
Also, Project Honey Pot Http:BL Platform Implementations could be interesting if you didn't find what you were looking for in my little list.

13/01 -11: Instapaper on Android
All of the hipster iUsers (or Applean folk) out there have been raving about Instapaper for quite a while and after trying it quickly, I noticed it to be really awesome service. Quite soon I realized the website had an official app (only for iPhone/iPad), which had gazillions of options and nifty bits that made the website even better. But nothing for Android.
After about a week of looking, googling and stumbling about, I found an app called EverPaper (also see developers site), which is the best app for Instapaper integration on Android, so far. As the name suggests, EverPaper also supports Evernote, while it being another awesome service, I prefer Catch (ex-Snaptic) for it will store copies of your notes locally, thus you have copies of your stuff even when you lose network connection. Catch is not supported, again, so far.
So, Instapaper + Everpaper on Android is really worth looking into. This combo being in my personal top 10 for Android.
EDIT (25.2.2011): Check out these apps as well, it's a list of Instapaper related apps (some just send stuff, with some you can also read/sync). Seems like EverPaper developer has run into some problems, while it still works fine for me, there are no real updates being rolled out as far as I can see.

28/10 -10: Piratismi, tuo ismien kummajainen
Lainaan:
"Saimme ilmoituksen TTKV:lta (Tekijänoikeuden tiedotus- ja valvontakeskus TTVK ry edustaa Suomessa musiikin oikeudenhaltijoita - Säveltäjäin tekijänoikeusjärjestö Teosto ry:tä ja Musiikkituottajat IFPI Finland ry:tä ja sen jäsenyrityksiä - kun kysymyksessä on musiikin luvaton käyttö internetissä.) että muunmuassa omilla kotisivuillanne on omaa musiikkianne jaossa lainvastaisesti ilman tekijänoikeuksien haltijoiden lupaa.
Selvitättehän asian TTVK:n/Teoston suuntaan."
Haluaisin kiinnittää huomion kohtaan "...omilla kotisivuillanne on omaa musiikkianne jaossa lainvastaisesti ilman tekijänoikeuksien haltijoiden lupaa...", joka todellakin, kuten englanniksi asia ilmaistaan, boggles the mind.
Modernia Lovecraftiaanista kauhua, etten sanoisi.
Miksei kukaan ajattele lapsia.

15/10 -10: Päivi Räsäselle kunnia-ateistin arvo
Olen ilahtunein mielin seurannut YLEn homokeskustelun herättämää sekoilua kristittyjen parissa.
Kirkon jättäneitä on jo tuhansia!

18/05 -10: Club 3D GeForce 7600 GT, busted
Well, had one of them 3D graphics cards mentioned in the title blow up on me.
What rubs me the wrong way about it was that it was just few months over the warranty. The peeps over at Club 3D were nice enough and replied fast, but I was hoping for a comp of somekind.
Ended up buying a slightly better Radeon card, but which is old as well. Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 AGP.
Here is a nice shot of the offending piece of hardware:

06/05 -10: UK Motorola Milestone got Android love
I decided to wait until the official update comes and that day was today. Over-the-air came smoothly, rebooted and installed without a hitch and I'm happily running Android 2.1. You can find the info on what is new elsewhere, what I wanted to write was the small prob I had with the multimedia station.
After putting the phone in the dock, the dock software kept crashing and only option was force close it every time it was started. I even rebooted the phone to no avail. But finally it dawned on me tha you need to clear settings from before the update.
To do that go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > press menu and choose Filter > All, locate and select 'Multimedia Station' and then 'clear data'.
After that you need to set the weather app for the dock, unless you get the correct one automatically. Done.
